What a horrible end to a very short vacation!!!

So this was the last weekend J had off and today he started back at work, with a 3 day duty cycle.
*Nice*

Anyway, so even if this wasn't bad enough...
looming over our heads all weekend like an impending doom coming too soon

... We had a quiet weekend, but Friday morning I woke up and just felt horrible, drowsy and not really hungry.... J watched DW so I could get a 30 min snooze, (which turned out to be longer) and I got up after J tried to wake me so we could grab some dinner with DR L and E. I just couldn't do it, but the promise f homemade soup got my out of bed and to the recliner in front of the TV, where I basically just slumped.
J had gone over to them to get me a cup of soup and as I sat there watching Fairly Odd Parents (Left on, because DW was watching it, and me too tired to change the channel, not sure if the remote was even next to me), in come E and is on her way to our fridge, so I say "hello", completely startling her (She had thought I was in bed)... She had come over to give me some medication... sweet right??

So I took the meds and we headed over to their house to go have something to eat, I was just craving the soup like mad!!! I ate and we had started to watch a movie, but I just couldn't sit there, so I once again came home and went to bed, where I had basically been all day!!(somewhere in the middle of this DW went to bed, no idea who put him to bed... I really was out of it!!)

Anyway once I came home our poor cat Taylor was on his little cat tree just looking at me crying and then hissing and growling, poor guy sounded in so much pain.
He'd been sick on and off for a couple of weeks, we suspected UTI infection, but it seemed to go away as fast as it came on

Saturday I awoke and I felt better (especially after taking my pain meds I got for my back!!), and I noticed now poop on the floor... so naturally we blame the dog and clean it up...
Us completely frustrated now!!!

We go run around and do a couple of errands, groceries, J's uniforms etc...

Later that evening we stop in by DR L and E and we all have dinner together again and watch movies etc...by the time we got home it was close to 1 AM and we're about to get into bed, when I hear J furious in the bedroom...
NOW WHAT?

Low and behold there is cat pee on the bed!!!!!! (earlier J had picked up dog turd.. so now his just about had it)
So we take everything off the bed so I can go wash it, as I pull the sheet off, more turds flies off the bed...
WTF??

Now it was completely impossible that the dog had done it, because the gate was up so DW wouldn't go into our bedroom, so it was definitely cat turd and not the dogs', so the earlier bit was from the cat too...

So we take everything off the bed and clean it up (now the mattress has cat pee on it too), so here I am cleaning the damn mattress with our carpet cleaner (has a furniture tool) at 1 AM!!!

Luckily we have a leather pull out couch, and we get to work putting it all together
*sigh*

Once we got up the next morning and had a chat with my Mother and Brother on Skype, I went ahead and reloaded the dryer and washing machine, trying to finish up the laundry from the night before...

I went into our bedroom, and Taylor had come out from under our bed and cried, hissed and growled at me, before going back under...

So enough is enough, J calls around and finds an emergency vet, we rush next door to DR L and E and ask them o watch DW while we run Taylor to the vet, because something is horribly wrong with him!!

We drive to the Emergency Vet Clinic, only to find out the directions on the internet weren't the right ones, but luckily we got the number off of the door of the local vet (which was the address it had said to go to) and called for directions...

Finally we get there and they take Taylor in immediately, afraid that he might have a blockage... and lo and behold he had to get a catheter in and get pain medication (of course), his poor little bladder must have blocked after peeing on and pooping on our bed (mmmm??!!??)

Turns out he has kidney stones and has for a while, poor guy has had on and off blockages and we hadn't noticed. He must've been just feeling like he had to push and it happened to be on our bed, and he pushed so much a turd and pee came out... lucky ME!!

Well this is going to cost a fortune naturally, and J and I are just looking at each other, just knowing... we can't afford this... this is crazy...
We see the vet and she runs down what she needs to do, and how they need to keep a catheter in for 36 hours and watch him for 12 hours more and then if he's ok, he can come home... She sends a price qoute to the front...

Naturally during this I am on the phone to DR L, trying to get his take on what the vet said (I know people are different, but hey it's an educated opinion right?)

The qoute $800 - $1200 WTF???!! Are they insane!!!!

I told them we can't afford that, that's ridiculous... So J and I are standing outside talking, trying to figure out what we are going to do... Taylor needs to be taken care of, and we can't exactly just tell them, sorry take everything out give me my cat back!! He's in so much pain and could die if it blocks up again and we can't unblock it....

So we finally decide well if this is going to keep happening and he is in so much pain, then sadly we'll have to say goodbye (don't want to actually write it out, so use your imagination!!!) Me sitting in the car crying, and J going in an signing the sticker (yes, no paperwork or nothing, just a damn sticker saying, sure do it!!).

He comes out and asks if I want to be there and say bye, and all I can get out is...
"surely if they racked up the payment and he can be saved by just going home with medication and a diet, she wouldn't let this happen (the vet) right?? I mean isn't that against the oath she took?"

We go inside awaiting the Vets news and they come out with a new quote $500 - $800... now I'm so confused and I don't know what to think anymore.... all I can keep saying is, we can't afford this (and they don't take American Express!!!!!!!!)

They bring it down again to between $250 - $400 (this is also subject to 20% give or take)... now I'm starting to get miffed... if you can bring it down this much you are racking up stuff that doesn't need to be on there...
She finally comes out and tells us, that the vets have a fund for special cases, and once all efforts are exhausted in trying to pay for this, (trying to get their credit line) we will be granted the money and they will pay. So we set out to fill in paperwork and try, I call and try to get credit (Now remember I am a student and a full time mom, so no income on my side), the guy almost laughs when I tell him I have no income... but low and behold he runs my paperwork and I get granted the credit (go fig right), and we go in, check the list and take off a couple of "worthless" tests and apparatus and agree for the work to go ahead...

So now Taylor was to stay there till Tuesday morning, and J asks to see him just before we go, when she bought him out his eyes seemed much bigger and a little 'relieved' He saw me and was clawing for me poor guy.

Needless to say I was fighting back tears... So now I am just waiting to go pick him up on Tuesday and start his new diet and meds intake... I'll have to separate his food from Suki's food, but hey at least my little panther will be back home right.

All I can say is, what a horrible end to a very short vacation!!!

Yeah, it was rather horrible...
Now we're picking him up at 20:00 tonight.
They said they would call if he is ready earlier, but man my poor little guy, he's going to have pain medication and anti-inflammatory meds to take at home.
He should be fine now (fingers crossed), but damn it's just so much money!!

Shame... :-( Isn't it a sin of large proportions (or something else terrible) that we can't just save animals' lives? You have to cough up ridiculous amounts of money first...!!!

Im glad your cat's gonna be alright...dude...to many people their animals ARE their children.

He's been with me through 2 deployments, and now that another one is on its way, it just wouldn't be right without him. I just hope this is the last of his problems.

Wow it sounds so soppy, but man he's just a bundle of unconditional love!!

Weighing in about 11 LBS (about 5 kg) I guess his not that little but still!!
